FACULTY SENATE RESOLUTION CONCERNING REOPENING OF H.C.C. CAMPUSES FOR INSTRUCTION
Initially Proposed by David Ross, College Readiness
Amended and Revised by the Workload and Compensation Committee
Resolved that the Faculty Senate urge the HCC Administration to take the following measures for the health and safety of HCC faculty, students and staff:
- That the Administration publish and make transparent the surveys of institutional stakeholders regarding their preferences as to instructional modalities for Spring 2021;
- That such surveys be included as part of the decision-making process with regards to modalities and scheduling;
- That numbers of actual registrations and trends derived from those numbers also be a part of the decision-making process, particularly regarding the overuse of the Flex modality, which is unpopular with students even more so than with faculty;
- That the Administration publish the metric (or metrics) of objective conditions which determine that faculty, students, and staff are safely returning to classes without undue risk of infection with Covid-19;
- That said metric (or metrics) be demonstrably aligned with those of City, County and State Health authorities;
- That the Administration publicly commit to remaining in the online-only modality UNLESS such metric (or metrics) be met, with established provisions for reassessment and revision should conditions change;
- That the Administration, in consultation with the Instructional and Workforce Deans and their Programs, designate programs for which face-to-face instruction is essential, with appropriate contingencies established for continuity of instruction should conditions change; and
- That the Administration publicly confirm its plans for Spring 2021 no later than January 7, 2021.
