RESOLVED:
That this Senate shall create, via use of appropriate committees (be they standing or ad-hoc), a Faculty Bill of Rights, to be included as a binding part of the Faculty Handbook.
RATIONALE:
The Student Handbook does an excellent job of describing in detail the various rights and privileges our students possess. The Faculty Handbook (and the Employee Handbook by TE) does not go nearly as far, and has significant gaps in certain areas (e.g. faculty rights during complaints, concerns about ethics, etc.). A binding Bill of Rights would help guarantee academic freedom, provide reassurance for concerned faculty, and leave all faculty more able to focus on their most important priority: the students.
